It turns out it was World Kidney Day yesterday, so prompted by Rachel (make sure and check the link above!) I came up with a list of three bookish things that would totally be worth handing over one of my kidneys. (obviously I'd only be able to choose one of these because I'm pretty certain I need to retain one of my kidneys, but let me dream of having extra kidneys and getting all three things, okay, thanks.)

In 1956, the Cornish village of St Steele is shocked by a trail of murders taking place in their midst. 15-year-old Betty is helping her somewhat erratic and fragile mother manage Hotel Eden while members of the London press descend on it.

Betty finds a friend in the aloof, 30-year-old reporter, Mr Gallagher. Their relationship grows, but the circumstances surrounding the murders will lead them both to make their own decisions that will largely affect their futures.

Every Exquisite Thing
by Matthew Quick
Published: 31 May 2016.

Goodreads synopsis:
Nanette O'Hare is an unassuming teen who has played the role of dutiful daughter, hardworking student, and star athlete for as long as she can remember. But when a beloved teacher gives her his worn copy of The Bugglegum Reaper--a mysterious, out-of-print cult classic--the rebel within Nanette awakens.
As she befriends the reclusive author, falls in love with a young troubled poet, and attempts to insert her true self into the world with wild abandon, Nanette learns the hard way that rebellion sometimes comes at a high price.

I read an excerpt of the first few chapters of this and I was hooked, instantly. I absolutely must read more right now. This is definitely already on my TBR.

[Me]: I feel ridiculous asking you questions I know the answers to.
[Me]: You are ridiculous. But do you know the answers? I might surprise you.

Although time travel is outlawed in the 2400's, Stassi works as a Runner for the Syndicate, who procure items from the past to those with the wealth and connections to make requests.
Excited about their new assignment (Paris, 1925), Stassi and her partner Gaige make elaborate plans to find and copy a specific manuscript. But this mission seems much more dangerous than it should be. History isn't playing out as it is meant to, and Stassi and Gaige are going to have to decide what they are willing to do to ensure their own future existing as it should.
This book is beautiful! Not just the cover - which is so pretty - but the story, you guys. It's amazing.

Amani is poor, orphaned, and female. All of these traits are particularly unfortunate in her oppressive dead-end of a home town called Dustwalk.
Luckily, Amani is also a talented gunslinger, and has the resolve and intent to leave Dustwalk behind her. Meeting a foreigner in a shooting contest may just be the answer to her prayers.

Hosted by the wonderful Kimba over at Caffeinated Book Reviewer, the Sunday Post is a meme to share news about the past week, as well as plans for the next. Mine is quite picture-heavy this week!
I have been so obsessed with AGOS this week. Anybody else?
  • Uni is so busy! But I'm looking forward to Easter break - just two more weeks of deadlines to get through!
  • Started hopping around some lovely Love-A-Thon blogs because I miss all these amazing people so much.
  • I told myself - very sternly - that I would not buy any books for a few weeks. If you scroll down the page you can see how badly I failed at this.
To summarise my entire review in one sentence: AGOS is pure, undiluted perfection.

This book is the sequel to A Darker Shade of Magic. If you haven't read it yet, please check out my review of it and let me convince you to give it a go! A Gathering of Shadows is set four months after the first one, and things have returned to normal, in a way.
Red London is preparing for the Essen Tasch - the Element Games - but in an alternate London, some much more nefarious plans are being set into motion.

A weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, this week we were prompted to pick our own theme. Heroines who know their worth and can look after themselves - and sometimes save the hero - are characters that I identify with. Not because I'm particularly kick-ass myself, but because that's something I aspire to be, maybe? In any case, here are some of my favourite novels featuring strong female heroines who are just perfect in their own ways.

These first few are my guilty pleasure reads! I'm trusting you with this information - don't use it against me, you guys ;) I've linked the covers to Goodreads so you can add the ones you like straight to your TBR!

Who?
Charley Davidson ( - don't you just wish that was your name?), is a PI... and also the grim reaper.
Why read about her?
Because sometimes you need a funny, kind of cheesy paranormal romance with a protagonist who has so much personality. Charley's pretty awesome.

Hi everyone! I was creeping on Joy's blog For Book's Sake because both she and her blog are awesome, and I happened across her post about the One Lovely Blog Award. By some miracle my name and blog were on her list of nominations. Thank you so much, Joy - you have no idea how happy it made me to see a link to my blog on yours :)
Please go take a look at her wonderful blog!

RULES:

  • You must thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
  • You must list the rules and display the award.
  • You must add 7 facts about yourself.
  • You must nominate 10 – 15 or so other bloggers

Facts about me:

  1. I often randomly start singing show tunes (Hamilton, anyone?).
  2. When I was 10 I taught myself to play the guitar.
  3. Grad school is the most challenging, frightening, wonderful thing I've done in my adulthood.
  4. I rearrange my bookshelf weekly.
  5. When I'm reading a book I have to use the same bookmark throughout - changing to a different one would bring me bad luck.
  6. I once drove a car over my new phone the day after I bought it. (Yep. I'm that awesome...)
  7. I watch too much TV (Doctor Who, Outlander, the Magicians, the IT crowd and so many others) but I find it difficult to get into movies these days.

Nominations

Thank you so much for checking out my nominations! Do you have favourite book bloggers you'd recommend?
